Just thinking about Project Spectrum today, excited about getting more involved and searching our creative ways to contribute until my knit socks are done…

These beautiful shots have been sitting in my Flickr Favorites file. Seeing them all together makes me realize how much I love these colors! Makes me want to find ways to celebrate orange!

We’re packing and getting ready to head off to Colorado in the morning. The boys don’t have school today and I think the three of us are just going to stay home in our jammies and enjoy each other’s company and play and relax and have fun!

I hope you have a great, fun weekend!

Valentine’s Day and other stuff

100_2094 Valentine’s morning was fun.  I gave all my boys their surprises.  This was Scott’s surprise:  a couple day’s supply of his favorite candy in a pretty mason jar.  lol

And a cute, little mini book that I made the bones for at CKU-Chicago, two years ago, and finally had the perfect opportunity to finish it up.  I think this was a Scenic Route project.  I just love it.

Here are some of the pages:

100_2097 Just filled it with pictures of my honey and mushy journaling.

100_2100 I love how it turned out.  My honey liked it too!

The little boys surprises went over well too, especially wormies!100_1924

I was so happy they liked them so much.  Both boys wanted to take them to school today, but there’s so much going on today, I told them maybe we’ll take them for show-and-tell next week.  I’ve got to scrap this today too:  I don’t ever want to forget that my little boys fought over who could be Mommy’s Valentine!  That’s something I never want to forget! At this point in their young lives, I’m the only woman for them!  lol

Bee and Dood are going to have a great day today:  Valentine’s surprises and parties at school and giving out valentine cards to their friends.  Not to mention it snowed last night–my boys love snow!!  And they’re out of school tomorrow and Monday.  Life is good for little boys!

So today, I’m spending most of my day catching up on laundry in order to pack and go to Colorado Saturday morning.  Yep, we’re going to try again.  Postponing the trip for one week did serve us well in one respect:  Scott and I can now agree on a movie:Jumpermovieposter

Looks really interesting.  I love a good sci-fi and Hayden Christensen is pretty easy on the eyes…

Going for birthday dinner with my sweet husband to Biaggi’s.  Should be a romantic, quiet, peaceful, fun evening, just me and my honey.  I’m really looking forward to it.

Meanwhile, Guh tells me that she and Umpa will be watching boys at the big, new McDonald’s with a big, new playground.  The boys will be in Heaven.  Guh and Umpa?  Maybe not so much…  lol

100_2230  So, now I’m going to brag about my family!  I was really, really spoiled this birthday!  I want to share some of the birthday surprises I received.  K?

Mama and Daddy bought me several books that I’ve been dying to have.  This first one has a couple patterns that I want to make.  (getting more and more into quilting and sewing.)  Also the author is also the author of a blog that I enjoy reading.100_2231

And this one really, really touches my heart.  It’s a true story, a children’s book about a man who lives in Snowmass, Colorado.  He joined a neighbor ( a cowboy) one Christmas Eve to gather around a tree and sing carols, in the barn with the animals.  The neighbor had told him that he had another friend coming to join them too.  And the three men and their sons were just going to enjoy the season their own way, for a little while.  Turns out the other friend was John Denver and his son, Zachary.  He played the guitar and sang for them and it was just an unforgettable Christmas Eve for them all.  I love, love, love this sweet book!100_2234

Then there’s this great knitting book.  I was having trouble finding sweater patterns for bigger kids.  (Most of the kids’ patterns go up to age 7…not big enough for my boys, at this point.)  So this book goes up to age 10 and offers lots of patterns that I want to make!

100_2233 Then, also from my folks, these beautiful glass knitting needles.  Yes, I have already used them and love them.  I need to find some lanolin though, to keep them slippy.  They have the most flexible and usable rope that I’ve used so far.  I love ’em.

And yes, as a matter of fact, I am still a spoiled brat only child.  My folks also are paying for my tuition to CKU-Provo this summer.  Thank you for all the wonderful birthday goodies, Mama and Daddy!

100_2161 Then there’s this.  OH, I LOVE IT!  Apart from amethist/purple being my birthstone, it is also my favorite color.  This picture really doesn’t do this bracelet justice.  It is so dainty and shiney and beautiful!  My mother-in-law made it for me, with matching earrings.  I’ve already worn both and already gotten compliments on them too!  Thank you, Sandy and Grandpa!100_2171

And from my little boys, I got this very adorable, little ceramic heart.  (I’m pretty sure Daddy picked it out, though.  Thank you, honey.)

But you have to see the inside:

100_2172

LOVE IT!

Also from the boys, got a cute little magnet that says, "Ask not what Mommy can do for you.  Ask what you can do for Mommy."  lol100_2191

And finally, from my sweetheart, I got these beautiful pieces of art.  I think we need to save them for now and place them when we get our bedroom painted and re-done.  These are so beautiful!

And…my favorite…100_2188

TULIPS!  Tulips are my favorite flower.  Have been for many, many years.  And now I have a bunch more to put in the garden this fall.  Just makes me  say, "Ooo, aah," everytime I pass the kitchen!

My honey and boys ordered Chinese food for my birthday dinner and we had a candlelight dinner at home, all four of us.  It was perfect!

Thank you honey, boys, Mama and Daddy, Sandy and Kent.  This was a really wonderful birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday

100_2177 And I want to thank my family for making me feel very loved!

Can you tell what my "thank you" is made of?

100_2193 My very own sewing/knitting labels!  I’ve never had labels before.  That means I can make real things!  lol

Got these from my sweet, wonderful mom-in-law.  Thank you, Sandy!

More happy birthday pictures to come later!

Looking to find what colors really speak to me, before I start making plans for a bedroom remodel. I’m looking at this mosaic of gorgeous pictures that I found on flickr and seeing a trend: I like shades of brown and blue…with a splash of bright happy colors here and there.
So, I’m going to stick with brown and blue, I think, but nothing too contemporary. I’ll keep looking around for ideas.
If you have any resources for images of French Country or Tuscan interior design, please share.
Have a great Monday!

Meet the newest member of the family

100_2148 I finished up Will’s little elephant yesterday.  I really wanted to finish it up, with Will being sick, I thought it would cheer him up.  Sadly, I didn’t finish til after Will was in bed and sound asleep…  and I mean SOUND ASLEEP…  cause I tried to wake him with whispers and kisses and nothing worked!  lol  (I know, I’m an awful mother, trying to wake a sick, sleeping child!)

So I put Zach (the elephant) on Will’s pillow, for him to find when he awoke….  About 6 this morning, Will came into our bedroom, carrying Zach, "Mommy did you finish him and put him in my bed!?"

"Yes, I did.  Do you like him?"

"Yes, I love him!"

Oh, I love that boy!

It’s a Bummer…

Well our fun little trip to Colorado ended up having to be postponed.  Woke up this morning to a sick boy and a sick puppy.  Everyone is very bummed, but we’ve promised to try again next weekend.

We did have fun last night, before the "fit hit the shan"…  We had a real, sit-down-at-the-table-with-the-whole-family dinner last night…  It was really nice.100_2083

We all talked about our day and ate a yummy dinner.  It was nice.  Then we went to Perkins with Nick and their kids for dessert and to visit.  It was fun.  All the kids had a ball.

So, as unexpected as our Saturday at home has been, it’s been very productive and rejuvenating for me.  I’ve really had a fun day at home, playing with Bee. Will was feeling better enough by afternoon to do some crafting with us…100_2102

The boys haven’t even gotten out of their jammies all day…for that fact, neither has their father!!  hehehe

The boys have really gotten into playing with my scrapbooking supplies lately.100_2110_2

Especially in demand are my rubber stamps, punches and paint, all of which they used today, making their Valentine’s Day mailboxes for school.  I ended up doing a lot of Will’s for him–he wanted to do it so badly, but just didn’t feel well…100_2111

I think he enjoyed the process though.  I’m not really sure what’s wrong with him.  Both boys have runny noses, but he’s got a tummy ache too…and Bee’s complaining about his ear feeling bad…  oh joy!100_2113

So here’s how Bee’s little mailbox turned out.  I think he did a great job.  And he did most of his all by himself!  What a little artist!  (yes, but is he a "Life Artist"?)  lol

100_2119 And here’s Will’s little mailbox.  I think it turned out pretty cute and he got to play with paint and glue and punches.  That’s all good stuff for a seven year old.

100_2104 Also wanted to share this little piece of school art that Will brought home yesterday…  It was just so sweet, I had to do something special with it.  I can’t believe how well our little first grader reads and writes already!

Probably put this somewhere in their playroom.  I just loved it.

I’ve been working on Will’s knit elephant the last hour or so.  All I have left to do is stuff him, sew him together and embroider blue eyes…  I should have him done today!  I haven’t mentioned it to Will yet…hopefully it’ll be a fun surprise this evening.  In closing, here’s another picture of my mother’s roses.  Turns out she won’t be getting them.  Instead she told me to send her pictures and enjoy them this week, myself.  I’m more than a bit bummed about that too…  100_2124

They do look really pretty in my kitchen, though…  lol

Better go check on my friends on line with my May 2002 Babies group and see what everyone’s cooking for dinner…  I have no clue, having been planning to be elsewhere…  Wish me luck…

Have a great Saturday!

Eye Candy Friday and other things…

100_1950 Tulips and coffee…two of my favorite things!  This shot was taken last weekend, in Colorado.  We’re going again tomorrow and I can’t wait.  We’re going to have so much fun!

We’re meeting Mama and Daddy in Ft. Collins for lunch and then Mama and the boys and I are going shopping!  (Joann’s, Lambspun, possibly Target)

Then Scott and I are going to Biaggi’s for my birthday and hopefully to see a movie.  (If we can agree on one.)

I still have to finish up laundry and pack tonight.  I want to have everything in the car and ready to take off in the morning!

We’ll be home early afternoon on Sunday…in order to have boys ready for school on Monday!

Found some fun creative time for myself this morning…100_2059_2

Made a simple little card for a friend of ours.  The card is to tell her how happy I am about her adopting an abandoned kitty cat that I took in, right before Thanksgiving.  Of course I couldn’t keep the kitty, although I wanted to so much!  He was the sweetest little thing…my heart really ached to put him back outside in the cold, which is what animal control told me to do.  I couldn’t keep him, I’m very allergic.  But somehow he made his way to Jennifer’s house and she fell in love with him.  His name is now Ben.  I’m totally elated to know that he has a great home!

Also spent some time doing my part of Ali’s new Weekend Creative projects.100_2048   The first week, the assignment was to list things that were significant to you in 2007.  Use your age to determine how many things you list.  (It isn’t necessary to comment about the number of pages it takes for my age!)  lol

Here’s the link to this assignment, if you’d like to find out more:  http://aliedwards.typepad.com/_a_/2008/02/weekend-creat-1.html

And here’s the assignment for this weekend:100_2054_2   The assignment was to make a collage with a punch and repetition.  Here’s the link for this one, if you’re interested in reading more:  http://aliedwards.typepad.com/_a_/2008/02/weekend-creat-2.html100_2051 .  This, as you can probably imagine, was a very fast project, but really fun and I love the way it turned out.  I chose hearts because I have very little around here to acknowledge that it is indeed, nearly Valentine’s Day…  Not sure where to put it yet, but I’ll come up with something.

Also made a cute little card for my folks, who are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this Valentine’s Day!100_2060

And found some gorgeous roses for my Mother this year…100_2071

I started (oh I don’t know, 15 or 20 years ago) sending my mother roses on my birthday.  As much as she tells me, "oh you really shoudln’t."  I know she loves it.  This year I was lucky enough to find some really beautiful colors at the local florist!  I’ll take them down to her tomorrow.

I guess I better get going.  Got lots to do before I’m ready to leave in the morning.  I hope you and yours have a fun, fabulous weekend too!

Wednesday Evening

100_1972 Having been sick for the majority of the last several weeks, understandably I started feeling blue/down/slightly depressed.  Of course the weather this time of year doesn’t help.

When Ali Edwards(http://aliedwards.typepad.com/_a_/ ) mentioned a Gratitude journal that she had seen and liked on Emily Falconbridge’s blog, http://embers.typepad.com/e/ , I had to check it out.  And upon checking it out, I knew I had to have one of my own and I felt strongly that it would help me get out of my sick-induced funk.

I used cheerful colors and floral, pink and girly things and came up with a happy little Thankful Journal of my own.  I’m going to write one simple thing that I’m thankful for each day.  It makes me happy.

Been knitting too.  I’m almost done with Will’s elephant…probably finish it up tomorrow.  And, in honor of Project Spectrum:100_1981   Red stuff!  Just happened to look over to my front passenger seat, the other day, while waiting for boys to get out of school and thought, "hey, there’s a bunch of red shit…  reminds me of Project Spectrum.  I should take a picture."  lol  Also in this shot is my Peppermint Mocha socks.  I’m a little further on them now, but not much.

Also gotta get busy on these:100_1694 another pair of socks for me, a baby cable pattern that’s complicated-looking but oh-so-easy!  These are my sock-knit-along project for February, due to be finished by the end of the month.  Yeah…right…

Really looking forward to this weekend.  We’re headed to Colorado again.  My honey’s going to take me out to dinner and to a movie for my birthday, while Guh and Umpa watch our boys.  I’m really looking forward to it!  40 sure seemed to go by quickly…   I hear the 40s just keep getting better and better.  I’ll keep you posted.  Because of the unpredictable nature of our weather this time of year, I already got all my birthday gifts from Mama and Daddy…  hehehe…  (they were worried that we wouldn’t be able to come back down this weekend, if there was snow.)   We’ll have cake this weekend, though–my boys will be happy little boys!  (they love chocolate cake!)

So in closing for today, I’ll just leave you with an adorable picture of my little North Carolina puppy, tootsie-pop.  I have to go kiss her little, fuzzy face now…100_1954

She had a wonderful time on Monday…she got to go to Will’s classroom for show-and-tell.  She excitedly ran around and checked out the classroom and all the kids.  She was one happy, little poochy!  Then we drove  up to Scott’s office,  took him out to lunch.  tootsie-pop was so happy to see Daddy in the middle of the day!  It was a really good doggie day!
