Daddy went back to work this morning, I made breakfast for the boys and coffee for myself, it has started snowing again and we’re making plans to go to Colorado for Will’s 7th birthday party next week!
I love having the boys home with me. Feels like I have toddlers again!
So, I wanted to share some more pictures and knitting. The hat that Scotty’s wearing was completed yesterday. I made it shorter than previous ones and per Scotty’s request omitted the pom-pom. He likes it. Wore it, off and on, all day yesterday. I wonder when Will’s going to put in for a new hat… (Scotty got one because he had picked out pink yarn last year and this year pink just will not do!) The kid still has to have a warm noggin’~! Also in this picture, the boys are drawing on coffee mugs that they got for Christmas from Cousin Debbie. They loved doing it! This was a perfect gift for our whole family! You done good, Red!
In the in between moments of our holiday, my Mom and I found lots of time to knit… (while the men watched ENDLESS hours of football.) I really, really enjoy watching football once or twice a week, when it’s on…but I even had more than my fill over Christmas. YUCK! Don’t care if I don’t see anymore football til next year! So, back to knitting:
I made this little mini-calorimetry for myself. Just got a wild hair and had to have one!
I made a regular-sized one too, that I’ll want on colder days. I found exactly the type of buttons that I wanted at Walmart! I couldn’t believe it… These were very quick knits and fun to make and I think they’re really cute, in a slightly Boulder/hippie kinda way.
My hair is so fine, though. I need to figure out how to keep my hair in place while wearing this. Just got to play around with hair pins or something… But I love the calorimetry!
Also started on another pair of socks for little boys. This is alpaca yarn from my stash. Putting the blue with the green was my mother’s suggestion and I think it looks gorgeous! This sock however is another lesson in "live and learn" for me and my knitting. The pattern says make the heel flap 1"-1 3/4" long. This one is too short for my boys. They need a 2" heel flap. So, I’ve started on the second sock and I’ll make it fit better. I may even steal this same yarn from my mother’s stash and fix this one too. I want my boys to be able to wear them for a while… not that it takes much time to make a little boy sock… but these are alpaca…EXTREMELY SOFT and Bee loves them! He’s been wearing the one completed sock for three days now! lol The down side of using alpaca is that it has to be hand-washed or it will felt…but that’s just fine with me. I was the lady who did cloth diapers and cloth wipies, remember? lol
So, I’m really not sure why sock blockers were invented… In my opinion, they are completely unnecessary… BUT I WANTED SOME! And Santa Mama and Daddy came through. Aren’t they pretty? I think that’s why people buy them…because they’re so pretty.
I love them. These are sized for my own socks, so I better get busy making some for myself, huh? Lord knows I have the yarn! Wanna see?
First, a word of advice for my fellow knitting buddies. If you ever find a yarn that you love and the manufacturer has discontinued it, look on www.etsy.com . Without a doubt, there will be someone on there dying yarn that looks exactly like the one you love. There are so many talented women on etsy, selling their goods. I go there often, just to look at what they’re doing.
This one looks just like one that I fell in love with by Claudia’s Handpainted. It was a limited edition colorway and is no longer being made. But I found it on etsy and the picture really doesn’t do it justice. Claudia’s was called Peppermint Mocha. This is going to be a pair of socks for me!
Then there’s this one… Some people say it looks like those pink/white/black Brach’s candies. Some people think it looks like Neapolitan ice cream… I saw it my Trekking XXL on Knitting Iris’ blog several months ago…only to find out that they no longer make it. Again, found one nearly identical on etsy. This too, will be a pair of socks for me.
Here’s a picture of it all knitted up.
And finally, here’s the last pair of socks for me, that I currently have in mind and can’t wait to get started on. This is Lion Brand Magic Stripes. I had to order the yarn on line, luckily Lion Brand sells it directly from their website. So I have lots of projects coming up to put on those new sock blockers!
Not to mention I have a sweater for myself in the works too, who’s knit-along starts on January 1st. Probably going to shop for the yarn while we’re in Colorado for Dood’s birthday party.
I have so many things that I want to make that I think I’ll have an easy time of it, trying to fit it into Lolly’s Project Spectrum that also starts in January. It’s a really cool, on line exercise that lots of knitters enjoy the last couple of years. All about color, this one is! If you’d like to check out the details, here’s a link: http://lollygirl.com/blog/project-spectrum
I guess that’s it for now. Got high-maintenance boys at the moment and *hitloads of laundry, waiting to be done. Oh boy… I need another cup of coffee…
Have a great day!
