On My Mind

I’ll be one happy Mommy when this week is over!  My baby Boo is being spayed on Wednesday.  We’re taking her to one of the best vet teaching hospitals in the country, spending twice as much as we would elsewhere, just to make sure she gets the best care.  But, God I’m dreading putting her through it.  The vet strongly discouraged us from visiting while she’s in the hospital and she’ll be there 3 days!  Part of me is glad that they’ll keep her 3 days and part of me is totally distraught, thinking how scared she might be.  GOTTA QUIT THINKING LIKE THAT!  So, I’m taking her big pillow out of her kennel and a blanket and a baggie of homemade peanut butter doggy cookies.  I don’t know what else might give her comfort while we aren’t there with her…  I think that’s the best I can do.

We’re taking off tomorrow early and dropping her off for all the pre-surgery stuff tomorrow afternoon.  She has surgery on Wednesday morning and then can go home late Thursday.  The boys and I are going to my folks’ house again.  Going to see Eclipse on Wednesday, in an attempt to keep my mind off of Boo and then coming home Thursday with the doggy patient.  Can’t wait for her to be home and this to all be over!

So today, I have lots to do to get ready to take off.  I guess I better go get some of that stuff done, eh?

Right Now

Listening: Always, always John Denver. When I’m down, when I’m happy, when I’m in need of spiritual healing or inspiration, I reach for my Ipod and bring up anything by John Denver.

Eating: low fat strawberry yogurt with an Equal in it… Cold and fruity and yummy!

Drinking: mostly water with Crystal Lite in it, these days.

Wearing: jeans and cool summer shirts… Still winter jammies at night, ‘cause our house gets cold at night…

Feeling: Completely and utterly blessed and thankful everyday!

Weather: a little humid and warm lately, but cooler today. Boo got so hot, playing ball in the backyard that I told her, “It’s more fun playing outside in the winter, huh? It’ll be winter again soon.”

Wanting: to see Eclipse! (the third Twilight movie, coming out at the end of June.)

Needing: Boo’s surgery to be over and for her to be home, happy and healthy again! (She’s being spayed next week.)

Thinking: About what I should be doing, rather than playing on my computer right now…

Enjoying: Having my boys home with me and figuring out stuff to do with them!

Wondering: If I will recognize my husband when he comes home today… (I’m not telling, you’ll have to wait and see.)

Our Father’s Day

Made an old family recipe for my father this Father’s Day.  This was the carrot cake that his Aunt Gert used to make every time we would visit her.  We all looked forward to it (and she knew it and she loved it!)  The recipe has been passed down and I bake it on special occasions.

Father’s Day cards made by the boys and me.  One for our Daddy and one for my Daddy.

Dead boys at the swimming pool in Longmont.  And just a word of caution to other moms:  SPF 60, All Day, Waterproof IS NOT!  I applied it 3 times in a 2 hour period and we still got very pink.  Next time at the store, I’m looking for SPF 100!

I always enjoy looking to see what’s new in my folks’ garden.

I love this plain, little pink rose because it’s right in front of a pine bush and the look together is BEAUTIFUL!

The highlight of the weekend, for me, was going on an atv-ing adventure with my honey.  Beautiful scenery and my favorite person, perfect weather and lots of fun.

I guess this was my favorite spot.  Dubbed “The Meadow”.  I couldn’t capture it in a picture, but there were wild purple irises blooming all over this little meadow.  It was a gorgeous spot to behold!

I had a ball, just us two, in the mountains and sunshine.  I hope there’s going to be lots more of this in our future!

I’m SO in the Mood to Quilt Now…

Oh my gosh, I’m SO in the mood to quilt now!  I don’t even like to sew, what the hell’s wrong with me?

All these beautiful things I found on blogs and flickr today and a blog buddy mentioning that she’s going to be quilting a table runner too…  Oh NOW I HAVE to do it.

I’ve never done appliqué, and it looks pretty labor intensive, so the table runner on the upper right is probably out of the question.  Although I may still use that color palette.  I want something that looks summer-y.

Originally saw the one on the bottom right this morning, while reading my daily-read blogs.  This one by Soule Mama (Amanda Soule) was the spark of inspiration.  That’s her tree quilt on top too.  LOVE IT!    I think it’s appliqué too, so I may be screwed…  I bet Katherine knows how to appliqué…  Katherine?

Here’s Amanda Soule’s blog, if you’d like to check it out:  http://www.soulemama.com/soulemama/ .  I love watching what she’s up to.

Love the runner on the bottom left too.  Looks the easiest to build too…  (I could be wrong…)  This one is by SarahQFD on flickr.

I’m still going to hold out and see what kind of table runner plans are being made by Essjay, before I decide what to do and/or buy.  Sara?

Having Fun With Knitting Needles Today

Finishing up a sweater for my Mom.  She had this beautiful sweater 99% done, sitting in her knitting closet for over a year now…  just couldn’t bring herself to do the seaming…  So I brought it home with me to finish up, because I really don’t mind sewing.

Now that it’s a joint effort, I hope she still likes it…  Got the neck band to still knit and a little more seaming to do and it’ll be done.

Going to be in the car a lot tomorrow and I’m planning on working on my vest.  I’m about 1/2 done with the back.  It’ll be the first sweater I’ve knit for myself.  Wish me luck, ‘cause I had to fool around with the math in the pattern…  Eek…

What is Normal Life Anyway?

We went to Football Camp.  The boys thought it was AWESOME…  for about 30 minutes.  Then the next 3 hours they begged to leave.  So, we tried.  Looks like football isn’t going to be their “thing”.

We’ve been to the swimming pool a couple of times already.  Got a little pink today.  I’ve got to do the sunscreen every hour!  The boys really enjoy it, accept for the occasional splash directly in the face…

We’ve taken one summer trip to Guh/Umpa’s house in Colorado already.  Mostly just hung around and played at the house.  Found a park to visit, went for a walk, knit, played in the playroom.  Next visit is next week and all the swimming pools down there will be open!!

Then next Friday we’re going to head up to the mountains for Father’s Day!  My folks are keeping the boys and Scott and I are going atv-ing!  Can’t wait!

The boys also began their summer reading challenge with Mrs. Meyer.  (she was Scotty’s second grade teacher and he loves visiting her, at her home.)

Also signed us up for the summer reading program at the library and we can have lunch with a bunch of kids every Tuesday with that group.  Should be fun.  The kids get prizes for reading.  It’s a good, little program.

And one final note…  I’m happy to announce that I currently have 32 tomatoes on the vines!  Woo hoo!  (and that’s after 4 hail storms!)

Rejoining Normal Life

We’re home from our first summer trip to Colorado.  Got home late Friday and spent all weekend, catching up on normal life stuff.

Now it’s Sunday evening and I’m about to start cooking spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.  Then jammies, a book and sitting on my couch with my baby Goldendoodle!
