Our Fall strawberry patch topped with Scotty’s wild flowers! Just beautiful!
Month: October 2011
Awesome weather!!
I promised her that I’d play “purple ball” with her everyday that the weather was pretty this fall! So far, we’ve done it! She’s been so happy since I got home. She had a bout of terrible tummy upset, we think from separation anxiety while I was gone last week. But soon as I returned she was her normal self again! Love that big baby! Especially love those red whiskers too, but there’s a doggy spa appointment this week… so bye bye, long fuzzy whiskers.
It’s been so lovely, we’ve been doing homework outside.
It was sweater weather today when the boys and Daddy walked around our neighborhood, selling pizza for a school fundraiser.
All the flowers are beautiful, loving the cooler temps. Supposed to get three hard freezes in a row this week, though… Then I’ll plant all the mums in the yard and pull up what’s left of the garden…
Fall perfection and I intend to enjoy every minute of it!
Year in Pictures–Week, um, not sure. My count is a little off… but I think it’s the last!

A new batch of rhubarb cinnamon muffins for my favorite little boys. (one of their favorite treats. Will doesn’t even like sweets very much, but he likes these!)

Did lots of cooking today: homemade peanut butter (delicious with agave) and CHUNKY salsa with the last of the tomatoes.

Love this little Thirty One bag that my sister-in-law gave me for Christmas last year. It’s PERFECT for carrying knit socks in progress…

I’m broke and in need of some cold, hard cash, so… I’M KIDDING! I have brought the tattle and whiney jars out of retirement, though. They worked so well the first time, and the boys have returned to old, bad habits… So the jars return.

Dood’s Halloween costume came in the mail. He’s worn it every chance he’s gotten since! (Bee’s Darth Maul costume should be here soon…)

Perfect Fall Sunday: knitting, snuggling with puppies, watching football, helping boys bake cookies, cold outside and lots of coffee and Chai tea inside – and not one load of laundry!

I finished the baby hat to go with the baby booties for the baby, who I hear was just born a couple of hours ago! Baby boy Kandru – 6 lbs and 19”!!! I can’t wait to meet him!

Getting ready to make sun dried tomatoes! My gardening friend, Katherine, decided to harvest what she had early and to SHARE THE WEALTH! Woo Hoo! Thanks, K!

Dried and ready for chili and soup this winter. YUM!

9 out of 10 days, I have salad for lunch. I vary the protein – sometimes it’ll be chicken, sometimes pork, sometimes ground beef, sometimes mozzarella cheese. There will always be sunflower seeds and cranberries, though. YUM! (I’m still gluten free, sugar free, and mostly dairy free. It’s been 5 weeks now. I’ve lost some weight too, which is just an added benefit.)

I spent the better part of a couple weeks drying basil. What’s left in the garden is ugly, so I’m done. But boy this stuff smells good (almost as good as it tastes!)

I’ve been drying lots of apples with cinnamon too. Dried apples and fresh, organic grapes make up all the sweets I allow myself these days. They’re so yummy. Why haven’t I eaten this way all my life? My boys prefer real, fresh apples… but my puppies pig out on dried apples! They love them too!

And so the Candy Season begins. This is candy from a birthday pinata. Then normally the boys pick up tons of candy at the Sidney Oktoberfest parade (turns out we didn’t get to go this year.) And then, of course, trick-or-treating… Bee’s in HEAVEN!

In honor of studying about the early Nebraska settlers, the boys made pioneer dolls in art class. Scotty came home, upset that he couldn’t figure it out, in time and didn’t get to make one in class. So we made them at home. This week, the kids made clothes for their dolls. What a great little project! (and right up Bee’s alley. He loves creative stuff like this!)

I love Scotty’s bedroom. It’s so cute and cozy. He has a couple night lights in there and a stereo, so that he can fall asleep to his favorite music. So why does he claim he’s afraid in there, by himself? I just don’t get it. It’s such a sweet, warm place, with all his personal stuff…

Taking lots of time and pictures of this little boy. His future is so uncertain, I want to cherish every moment we have left.

With the first frost being so early this year, I had high hopes that cooler temps were here to stay too… not so much. We’re expecting a high today close to 90! YUCK!

They’re tiny, little flowers, no bigger than a nickel, but they’re the most beautiful little treasures! This is the Creeping Phlox that I planted in the front flower beds last spring.

Had to stop at Guh/Umpa’s house on the way home from the pumpkin patch, down in Colorado! (silly boys)

Taken by our friend, Thad, while he and Scott were on their fishing trip up at my folks’ mountain house, outside Estes Park, Colorado. Just breathtaking! Had to share. And you bet I’ll be playing with our Galaxy Tab and figuring out the panoramic camera!

This shot can stand posting again. I think it’s so funny and it makes me happy, Daddy helping Boo get her ball and all you can see are their bottoms, sticking out from behind the shooting board… That’s Boo and Boo’s Daddy!

In lieu of my favorite Pumpkin Spice latte at Starbucks, I’m trying to get by with this. It’s yummy, but it’s not the same. (It’s sugar free, so it fits my bill.)

I’m not sure why, but the daylilies, roses, the phlox are flowering and looking better than they have all summer… It’s great!

Both boys got eye exams today. Scotty came home from school on Thursday, saying, “The school nurse says I need glasses.” Hmmmm… So we decided to have both boys checked out and turns out nobody needs glasses. But I think they enjoyed the attention from the friendly optometrist and his nurse.

New lighting above and below the kitchen cupboards. My honey was installing these a few weeks back, when he decided to drill his finger and be rushed to the e.r. Now his finger is mostly healed up and the lights are complete – with no further damage to my husband! (thank you very much!)

Already making plans for Halloween parties at school. I’m the room parent for both boys this year, so I get to be involved a little more and I’m loving it! I really enjoy Halloween – so much fun to be had! (I’m still not convinced that the boys are ready to go to a haunted house with me this year, though.)
OFF the Needles!
This is The Simple Mistake Rib Vest. I loved it the moment I first saw the pattern. The only problem was I needed a size bigger than the largest size… So I adjusted all the numbers in the pattern (and added 7” to the length) and thought it was still going to be a quick, easy knit… not so much.
I started having problems with the increases for the neck and lost the rib pattern… Got very frustrated and completely lost interest. Then I asked my best knitting buddy if she’d finish it for me and SHE SAID YES! I LOVE it. It’s perfect and exactly like I had envisioned! Thank you so much, Katherine!
Deck the Halls with Spooky Stuff
Ordered Will’s Spiderman costume today. I’m still looking for zombie costume ideas for the other boy… Also still thinking about buying some fake spider web to put out front…
Scott usually walks around the neighborhood with the boys and I stay home and hand out candy. I LOVE handing out candy and seeing all the kids dressed up!!! I put the older pups in my bedroom and Boo helps me with the Trick-or-Treaters. Can’t wait!
